Society for the Friends of Ferals is a registered charity operating throughout the Municipality of Digby, Nova Scotia.

Founded in 2002, our mission is to alleviate the suffering of feral cats by providing food, shelter, essential medical care and TNR services (trap-neuter-return) to control the feral cat overpopulation.

Society for the Friends of Ferals is a small group of volunteers who feed colonies daily, transport cats to/from veterinary appointments, and foster adoptable cats and kittens until they find their forever home.

All funds received through donations and fundraising are used exclusively for the benefit of our rescue operations.  To date, Friends of Ferals has provided TNR services to over 1,367 cats and rescued countless others.

In 2018, Friends of Ferals rescued 274 cats/kittens from 146 separate incident reports. Our volunteers arranged the TNR of feral cats and fostered all adoptable cats and kittens until adoption.

In 2019, Friends of Ferals rescued another 307 cats/kittens arising from 107 reported incidents. 255 of those were fostered by our volunteers. Some of these rescue operations involved large colonies of unaltered cats and kittens, some newborn. In one location alone, we rescued 36 cats/kittens (32 in November/December 2019 with the last 4 hold-outs rescued in early 2020). We now believe ALL have been rescued from that site.

In 2020, we rescued another 283 cats/kittens and fostered 224.

In 2021, Friends of Friends rescued another 281 cats/kittens and fostered 222.

In 2022, another 280 feline lives were saved.

So far in 2023, Friends of Ferals has rescued 203.
